Last Chivalry
Last Orders is a storytelling environment centered on the tragic end of Arthurian chivalry. Charlemagne’s rule over the Carolingian Franks has begun, and Pope Adrian I stands secure within the Papal States, sheltered by the defeat of the Lombards. In Brittany, old borders burn once more, as long-simmering tensions flare with the return of Roland of Nantes. The local kings of the Bretons have united in defense of their realms against Frankish encroachment, yet unity frays as upstart lords return from foreign wars demanding titles, rank, and recognition—claims forged not in Breton soil, but in Lombard blood. The Last Orders are the remnants of monastic knightly orders founded by those Knights of the Round Table who returned to Brittany after Arthur’s fall at Camlann and his journey to Avalon. Once warriors, they became hermits and monks, binding themselves to oaths older than crowns or law. Centuries later, only a few remain. This is their tragedy: the slow decay of sacred vows in a brutal medieval world where law replaces honor, and power outweighs virtue. Last Orders stands at the threshold between history and legend. Listed as historical, there are and may be some fantasy elements, but very light fantasy.
